Wine Cork Garden Markers

I have a slight obsession with wine. I love reds especially Shiraz's and Pinot Noir's. I also don't say no to a good blend, Merlot, Cab, Bordeaux, Meritage, etc. I will occasionally drink a white wine- more likely a Moscato or a Riesling. For some reason, I'm not a huge Pinot Grigio or Chardonnay fan. With all that being said, it is totally fitting that my kitchen has a wine theme to it. Also, during our wedding, instead of having a guest book at the reception, we had our guests sign wine corks and then I put them in hurricane vases with a LED candle in the middle. Want that pin? Maybe I'll post it soon.

I have many wine corks hanging out in my house- just waiting for something to be made with them. I have tons of pins on what to do with them, and the one I tried out this time was the Wine Cork Garden Markers. Of course, I have to put my own little twist on them. The original pin was from Yahoo! Shrine which then led me to a Disney blog, which then lead me to another pin from Shine your light and in reading her post, she got the idea from My Chic Life. I guess I am not the only one who loves wine corks!!

They suggest that you mark a wine cork with a sharpie and then place it on a skewer by using a drill bit to drill the hole. I am lazy- no drill bit here. Just buy skewers that have a pointy side to them, and put them in the same hole that you made when you opened the wine bottle. Here is my cute little basil sign (by the way, my basil is kicking butt this year!)

So, I wanted something more for my plants that sit in the raised beds. A tiny little wine cork wasn't going to do. I decided to write the letters on the flat side of the cork, one letter per cork. Then I took those corks and hot glued them together. When they had set, I hot glued the skewers to the back of the corks one at the start of the word, and then another at the end of the word. If the word was long, I glued three skewers to it (tomatoes, cucumbers, etc). If it was short- like peas, I just used two skewers. I think they turned out pretty good.
