Wine and Food Pairing

Let me tell you about the greatest day ever- it involves wine. Doesn't matter what else happens that day, just as long as there is wine at some point during the day. That is how much I love wine. Even on the worst day, I still enjoy it because there was wine.

I am a huge fan of red wines, although I am coming around on the whites. I think at this point, being pregnant, any wine would work. The NA wine just doesn't do it for me. So, while I can't drink it right now, I can still research it and find out how to drink my wine once I can again.

One of the things I hear about all the time is the great pairing of wine and food. Especially wine and cheese. So, there was this pin with a giant wheel of wine, and then all the cheese that you could eat with your wine. Seriously- cheese and wine, a meal in itself. I thought i would expand on this and look into other things you can pair with your wine, so I went to Match my wine to research the options. I found the food paring basics list, which seemed great.

So, with the whites, I love a Riesling. I think the best bets would be Gouda, trout, sweet BBQ, and apple pie. All of those would be fantastic. But, what do you cook? Let's go back to an oldie but a goodie- allrecipes.com. Type in an ingredient that you want and it will pull recipes that have that included. It could not be more simple right. Or if you go to match my wine, see the recipes that they have- some of them looked pretty tasty.

Now on to the reds. Pinot Noir is fantastic. I do love it with a filet mignon, mushrooms, red sauce pasta (even a vodka penne pasta is wonderful) oh and white chocolate. Chocolate is good with anything in my opinion. I will totally agree with the Syrah/salmon combo as well as pepperoni. Seriously, eating pizza and wine-how the world was made to be. I personally drink merlot like it's water so the thought of pairing it with anything goes out the window, because in my book it goes with anything. And Cab, my least favorite red but still an old friend. I think the grilled tuna, rib eye, and cheddar sound great.

So, where are all the blends and the "weird" wines. I will let you in on a little secret. Go to food and wine pairing. Specifically to the section Match wine to food. Not only will it tell you about the wine, but it gives you food to pair it with, and possibly what to avoid.

Last thing I will say about this, as I am craving wine big time right now. If you don't want to keep going to the Internet to find your food pairings, think about buying a set of food/wine pairing cards. The queen of amazon strikes again. Look what I found- and they are cheap too- $9.99! They went on my wish list instantly- someone will be buying these for me for Christmas! It gives the history and origin of the grape, the wine it makes, the food to pair it with. Oh, and for those of you who are like me and grammatically challenged, it gives you the phonetical pronounciation- yay.
