Organizing Your Drawers

I will be the first one to admit that I hate dressers. Nothing against them per say - just that they are big, and bulky, and you can't see anything that you put in there. I am mind you, a fantastic folder. I have worked at my fair share of retail stores so I know my way around a folding board. I am not one of those people who owns a folding board- although I sometimes do look at it on amazon and think how great it would be to have one in the house.

Just like this one- isn't it fantastic.

So, when I saw a pin on how to organize your drawers, I thought- lets give it a try. I have a board dedicated to my OCD ways. I feel bad for my husband because at this point I don't think he knows the difference between nesting and being a complete control freak. Never the less, he still loves me (I hope). I showed him my new drawers once they were done- he might also think I'm a little crazy. I think this will also be perfect for the babies clothes, because she already has a ton, and we are still a few months away from meeting her.

I didn't take a before picture, but here is what a typical dresser drawer looks like, right. This comes from the original pinner at Dark Room and Dearly. (She has a different folding method- but they all work out about the same).

Take all of the shirts out of this drawer and fold them in this way:
1. Choose T-shirt. Yep- that's a McRib shirt. My husband bought it as a gag gift for me last Christmas. Little did he know that it was going to become one of my favorites. I wear it to bed all the time. Poor guy, someday he will learn.

2. Fold the shirt in half, with the pattern facing towards the outside.

3. Fold in the sleeves and then fold the shirt in 1/3 of the way on the bottom.

4. Fold the shirt up from the bottom one more time so that it is 1/3 of it's original size.

5. Flip the shirt over to see that it makes a nice display of the print.

6. Put the shirt into your drawer- print side up with the other shirts.

7. Bask in the glory that is a clean and organized dresser drawer. And you can see all of your t-shirts, so it makes it easier to pick one out instead of digging through a pile!

Hope this helps you organize your drawers as well. I have also done it with my yoga pants, and my shorts. I'll be honest, I don't have a great tip on how to fold them. My full length pants I do an almost tri-fold but a little bit over 1/3 of the way on the first fold so that they don't get too "tall" for the dresser drawers. Capri's end up being a little less than 1/3 of the way so they aren't too short. And for shorts, I just fold them in half. Obviously it also depends on how deep your drawers are.
