Easy low chignon (bun) for your hair

Fancy word in the title- right! Does it scare anybody? Like what the heck is she talking about? I thought it would be helpful to include the parenthesizes for bun right behind it. To be honest, I had to look up how exactly to spell chignon. I remember when I was in junior high there was this "tool" to create chignons. It basically was a fabric covered metal rod that you would wrap your hair around, and then fold the fabric around your hair to create big full buns. I know I made my mom buy them for me, swearing that I would use them all the time....and that never happened. I might have used them a handful of times, and then got bored and moved onto the next big thing. Now that I'm older, I am always looking for interesting styles for my hair so that I don't do the same thing everyday.

I have mid-length, coarse, curly hair. I have been know to use relaxer on it. I fight between going curly and wearing it straight on a daily basis. Oh, did I mention it's also dry. So, please don't say this is gross, but I only wash it every other day. When it was very long, it was every three days because it was so dry. It helped keep the damage at bay. Now that it hangs at my shoulders it gets a little bit more softness to it. I normally straighten it in the morning and tousle the ends. Sometimes I like to wear it up so I've pinned some great styles that you can use for short or long hair. This is the style I did this week- minus the flower. I've tried to make some step by step instructions, as the original did not have any instructions, just pictures and the website link no longer existed. Hope you like it!

1. Start by pulling your hair into a low ponytail. Right above the elastic band, make a small split in the middle of your hair .

2. Through the split in your hair, pull the ponytail through to create a "wrap" in your hair on both sides.

3. If needed, pull your elastic band tight again to hold your hair in the ponytail.

4. Starting with the ends of your hair, turn them into your hair and continue to roll your hair until it is against the back of your head.

5. Pin your rolled hair so that it is secure against your head. It takes me about 6-8 bobby pins, but you may need more or less depending on the length and type of your hair.

6. Spray your hair with a strong hold hair spray and then add a pretty clip of your choice to finish off the style.

7. Voila- you have a great hairstyle for work or play!
