I have died and gone to heaven. There was an actual advertisement pin that paid off and did what it said it would do. My friend had posted a pin for Stylebook, an app that was listed as a closet manager for your iphone. I have been looking for something like this for close to three years. I think as girls, we have all gone rounds with our closet. From what to wear, to how to organize, the closet is a never ending battle.
Let me give you a little history on my closet habits. I would arrange clothing by color. Then, I arranged them by type (sweater, shirt) and color. Then at one point I arranged them by type, style (work, play, evening) and color. I've had different hangers for the clothes. In an attempt to weed out articles in my closet, I went through and tried to wear everything once. If I didn't like the way it fit, or couldn't get it to match something else, out it would go. While working in health care, I had a five day system. Day 1-blouse, day 2-cardigan, day 3-sweater, day 4-button down, day 5-layer. And once I had worn that blouse or cardigan, etc- it would go to the end of the line and I could not wear it again until I had gone through the rest of my clothes.
Well, craziness no longer needs to ensue in this manner. I checked up on this Stylebook app, and was hesitant to spend the $3.99. Yes- it's true. I have never once bought an app from the app store. Everything is free on my phone because I am a true cheapskate. My sister, in an effort to make one Christmas easier to ship things, sent us a small gift and a gift card. I received an itunes gift card that I finally loaded onto my account this week (she bought it for me in 2011-oops).
Now mind you, I have only downloaded a few articles into the app, but this thing is ingenious! Let me save you the trouble and go over the features so you can see what a worthwhile app this really is!!
1. Closet. This is where you build your closet. All of the clothes that you want can fall into here. You can add subcategories, to the main folders, you can add new folders, you can organize how you want the folders to lay out (tops, then bottoms, then shoes, then accessories-however you want). You can add clothes by pasting it from a website, taking a photo in your wardrobe, or choose an existing photo. What is fantastic about it is that you can remove the background-AWESOME! It works like paint to erase things. Very cool.
You can also add clothes to your closet by "shopping". The database is huge. Search by brand, store, or category. You can also type in your search results. I will say, I have some items that I just bought from motherhood maternity. I couldn't find the color I had bought, but then you can open the web, search their store, and then save a picture to upload to stylebook. Seriously, I feel like they thought of everything.
Once you've added clothes into your closet, you can do a bunch of other things with them. Add them to looks, put them with inspirations, view product info, or even create your own notes. What I especially love is that you can add a price to it and it will tell you the price/wear based on when you have it listed on your calendar.
2. Looks. This is where you will build your outfits. Once again you can add new categories, move things around, rename items. It's like Polyvore- but with your own clothing! Create a new look by tapping on the category and then click the plus sign. It can pull items from your closet, from shopping, from your pictures, from inspiration.
3. Inspiration. Do you like Polyvore? Do you like your clothing pins on pinterest? Do you want to have them in your Stylebook? You got it. Choose your inspiration board, and add the picture.
4. Calendar. No longer do you need to spend precious sleeping time in the morning trying to figure out what you are going to wear. You can add clothes or looks to the day and get dressed in the dark if need be!
5. Packing List. Wow! Going on a week long trip, but don't want to pack everything you own. Choose your items or styles, and it will list them out for you. Would be awesome if it would remind you to pack your toothbrush...
6. Style Stats. Will give you total counts in your closet, articles never used in a look, or put on your calendar, and top 25 most and least worn.
7. Besides being able to add items to your closet, you can also add things to your wish list of things to buy. Also you can add brands, category, or store to your favorites for easy accessibility.
8. Style Expert looks like it give you tips, tricks, and articles. To be honest, I'm too excited to be adding all my clothes, I've barely been through that.
9. Wifi Accept. You can share looks between your ipad and iphone, or even with friends.
Hopefully, you think this app is as worth it as I do. I look forward to getting to put more styles onto my list of maternity fashion, as well as once I get back to my normal size!
